I {Heart} Amsterdam

I couldn’t possibly talk about Meet The Blogger without telling you all about my very first trip to Amsterdam. Being in such a beautiful city I wouldn’t possibly come all that way without  exploring. On my first day I met with both Liselore and Janneke for dinner and met my first challenge – getting to grips with the transport system! It was surprisingly easy though. Just jump on a tram to the centre of town and away you go – it was like being back at home. What I liked was the fact that I got the hang of getting around so quickly and it was a golden opportunity to explore the city better.

The day after the event I met up with Sam and her husband Den and kelly and her husband Dom who had arranged for us all to see the city – segway style! If you do anything in Amsterdam you must see the city via segway. It was so much fun and after a little wobble I was soon whizzing down the beautiful narrow streets in between all the hustle and bustle. One place I did want to see was Vondel Park and was so glad we stopped by. Such a lush, enchanting park – to me it’s kind of the jewel in the Amsterdam crown. I could just imagine spending a lazy, sunny Sunday afternoon laying in the park getting tucked into a good book. Ahhhhhhhhh! As I went through the dam, passing the many beautiful canals I had to stop and take a picture of this gorgeous, sophisticated house. The powerful buzz of the zesty yellow against the backdrop of this charcoal grey brickwork with the subtle addition of the pink roses just makes me want to swap houses with this interior-minded designista!

Getting around is traditionally done on two wheels. Sadly as I can’t ride a bike [yep, it’s true, I can’t ride a bike – I must learn though] so I admired the culture by foot. If I could ride a bike though I would definitely have picked one like this above, so bright & bubbly – a little like me! One of the things I love about travelling is not only the culture but the architecture and its history. I love the Dutch style here and the way that everyone takes great care of their homes and are style conscious. Although it was a short but sweet trip to the dam I am already thinking about my next trip back and this time I’ll definitely stay for longer!

See you soon Amsterdam!
